MOLD FREE

“Many health effects are caused by exposure to the interior environment of Water Damaged Buildings(WDB). The complex mixture of contaminants present in the air and in the dust in WDB form a toxic chemical stew.”

-Dr. Scott McMahon, North America’s leading mold specialist.

[Healthy materials were extremely important to these clients: their daughter, who had chronic Asthma prior to moving into the house, was able to throw away her puffer within a year of living in the home]

The modern stick-frame home provides the optimal conditions for rot when moisture gets into a wall cavity. In the past, drafty homes were built with first-growth timber(20-30 rings per inch). These homes were cold and inefficient energy-wise, but the stronger wood was better able to withstand moisture and insects. Now homes are built with weak wood (5 rings per inch) and subjected to vapor barriers and still air pockets due to insulation. Insulation must still the air to be successful and the better the insulation, the less air movement. Insulated buildings and organic materials (ie. Wood) don't do well together unless moisture never gets in the wall. This is not realistic. Whenever we use buildings, we bring moisture into them, and at some time, that moisture will enter the wall from the inside, or the outside, or the plumbing or flooding.

A well-detailed SIREWALL home will create a humidity flywheel keeping the interior humidity constant. Molds can't grow where the humidity is kept below 65% RH. 40-60% RH is considered the ideal range for human health. SIREWALL is made from inorganic materials that are not susceptible to mold growth.
